New Book, PLUS... Carney as Canada's Cyrus?

Carney - For Such a Time As This This is what the Lord says to His anointed, to Cyrus [king of Persia], whose right hand I have held; To subdue nations before him, and I will ungird the loins of kings [disarming them]; To open doors before him so that gates will not be shut: "I will go before you and level the mountains; I will shatter the doors of bronze and cut through the bars of iron. I will give you the treasures of darkness [the hoarded treasures] and the hidden riches of secret places, So that you may know that it is I, the Lord, the God of Israel, who calls you (Cyrus the Great) by your name. For the sake of Jacob My servant, and of Israel My chosen, I have also called you by your name; (Isaiah 45: 1- 4a). I believe that hundreds of years before Cyrus was born, God called him by name (v. 3). I also believe that in God's providence, this is the Prime Minister we have. I pray that the Lord will be gracious to our Prime Minister and call him to Himself. To be clear, I don't like Mark Carney and his Liberal government. They are as crooked as a corkscrew. They have been destroying this country for over a decade. They are committing atrocities at the beginning of life with abortions, and atrocities at any age with MAID (assisted suicide). God condemns the innocent taking of life. I have heard allegations and seen evidence that the PM is dishonest and lacking in integrity for not disclosing his assets, engaging in unethical investments abroad, and engaging in activities that clearly conflict with his position. Both he and his ministers hate Christianity. They pass evil laws that call good evil, and evil good. They hate the condemnation in Scripture that prohibits everything they love and would destroy the Bible in a heartbeat. However, PM Carney is the Prime Minister God has appointed for a time like this. Based on my research, we, as Christians, have abdicated the political sphere since after WWI. We failed to raise generations who will fear the Lord and love His ways. Since arriving in this country over 35 years ago, I have watched a steady decline in Christian influence while seeing the ungodly rise to power. So we are stuck with PM Carney negotiating a trade deal with the US. We need righteous laws again, passed by righteous MPs with integrity. Despite all the low blows the US government is sending his way, he has taken the high ground. Instead of trading cheap shots across the border, he has promised to change things for future generations by seeking more reliable trading partners worldwide and reducing or eliminating provincial barriers so we can succeed as a nation—all laudable pursuits. You see, I believe that the recipe for insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. Just look at the same issues occurring from 1852 to 2026… 174 years!!! How Did We Get Here? Negotiating a Free Trade Agreement with the United States has ALWAYS been a history-making, history-changing moment for Canada. In 2018, I wrote an article about Canada's long history of Free (?) Trade with the US. It is still relevant today. If you haven't read it, you should. It showed that the tariff issues in 2026 are almost exactly the same as they were from 1852 to today. It all started with a Reciprocity Treaty from 1852 to 1866. But in 1866, the US Congress voted to cancel the Reciprocity Agreement. That same year, the US bought Alaska from the Russians as a first step in owning ALL of North America. Annexation was on their minds. If they could purchase Rupert's Land, they would take over the colonies of Upper and Lower Canada, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI. But Britain's colonies were already planning confederation because, even then, talk of annexation was real, especially since the US was still embroiled in a Civil War with real potential to spill over into Canada. In 1867, the US did not renew the treaty with Prime Minister John A. Macdonald, and no free trade agreement followed until 1911. Each nation had its own protected tariffs. In 1911, Sir Wilfrid Laurier's government negotiated another free trade agreement. The Liberals ran on a platform of Free Trade with the US, which the electorate rejected in the elections. Conservatives, under Robert Borden, were against free trade. They won the elections after 15 years of Liberal rule under Sir Wilfrid Laurier by expressing concerns about he loss of Canadian sovereignty and economic independence. Between 1935 and 1980, the debates continued about the value of free trade with the US, resulting in many bilateral agreements. In 1960, the US made a trade agreement on the auto industry but was not interested in pursuing trade agreements in other sectors of its economy. Over the years, they wanted to claw back some aspects of the auto agreement. By 1985, after 10 years of study by many Senate Standing Committees, and despite fears of losing sovereignty and jobs to the US, the Senate encouraged Parliament to pursue more free trade with the US. In the 1984 election, the Conservatives supported free trade, while the Liberals and NDP did not, citing the need to protect Canadian sovereignty and avoid becoming the 51st State. The Conservatives, led by Brian Mulroney, won the election, and it was dubbed 'The Free Trade Election.' From 1989 to 1993, discussions became trilateral after Mexico was added to the equation, and the agreement was called NAFTA. NAFTA aimed to enable free trade among the three nations by eliminating most tariffs and trade barriers. By 2020, the agreement was known as the USMCA, which included the US, Mexico and Canada again. This time, it also included rules on the percentage of auto parts made in North America to qualify for free trade, access to Canadian dairy markets, digital trade, and a 16-year term to be revised every 6 years. In 2026, you can see how many of those same issues have been discussed since 1852!! ------------------------------------ So while President Trump takes cheap shots at Canada - calling PM Carney Governor, threatening to make Canada the 51st State, making untrue statements such as, 'we don't need Canada, but they need us'; imposing 50% tariffs because of northern wildfire smoke; and finally, renaming Lake Ontario as Lake America - some new exciting things are happening for Canada. Watch these videos in response to the inane claim, 'we don't need Canada, but they need us.'
The truth is, President Trump can rename the Lake out of petty vindictiveness, but he does not control it. ------------------------------------ Here are some ways PM Carney is changing the trajectory of 174 years of trade history with the US.
