Take a peek into Queen Victoria's remarkable life and legacy.

Queen Victoria reigned for 63 years. She left a legacy in many places of the world.

Canada remembers her annually on the third Monday of May. Even the PM mentioned her children's contributions to Ottawa while welcoming the new Governor General.

Among her many legacies, Queen Victoria designated Ottawa as our capital and commissioned the construction of the Parliament Buildings.

Did you know that this portrait, which is hung in the the Senate foyer, has been rescued from fire 4 times?

Some of the topics we will cover include:
- Her strange family life
- How Ottawa was named
- Legacies left by her children in Canada

As a newcomer to Canada, I heard that Queen Victoria named Ottawa as our capital to make it less accessible to attacks from the Americans. I was surprised by what I learned when I dug deeper. You will too.

I also learned that the Natives thought fondly of her. Now I understand why Prince Harry met with them on his visit to Canada. So much for them toppling her statues.

For the first time, I understood the demographic of the Irish in Canada. Now I have a better understanding of the Fenian raids.

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.

Discover what was thrust upon Queen Victoria, and the greatness she achieved because of her husband, children, and grandchildren.
